Tourism in the Danube Delta follows clear rules designed to protect the beauty and balance of this unique place. Once the Delta was declared a Biosphere Reserve, special visitor regulations were put in place so that anyone who comes here can enjoy nature without jeopardising its richness and diversity.
Route 1: Tulcea - Gârla Șontea - Mila 23 - Crișan - Tulcea; this route can also be done on the variant: Tulcea - Gorgova - Mila 23 - Crișan - Tulcea

Route 3: Tulcea - Stipoc Canal - Chilia Veche - Tulcea
Route 4: Tulcea (Câșla Lake) - Gârla Somova - Saon Monastery (Telincea Lake) - Tulcea
Route 5: Murighiol - Dranov Canal - Gura Portiței - Dunavăț Canal - Murighiol
Route 6: Murighiol - Danube Canal - Cocos Canal - Mustaca Canal - Mustaca Canal - Ring Canal - Dranov Canal - Murighiol (extension on the Ring Canal to Lipoveni Canal and on Mustaca Canal to Razim Lake, from where you can continue on route 5 to Gura Portiței)

📌 Rules and recommendations for tourists in the Danube Delta
✅ What is allowed and recommended:
- Boat trips on established tourist routes.
- Bird and wildlife watching (birdwatching) - The Delta is a paradise for photographers and nature lovers.
- Eco-tourism and guided tours with locals who know the area and its traditions best.
- Eating fish and local dishes - part of the Delta's identity.
❌ What is not allowed:
- Bird disturbance (especially during the nesting period - spring).
- Enter by fast and noisy boats in strictly protected areas.
- Littering in the water or on the shore - every tourist must take their rubbish with them.
- Illegal fishing - is only allowed with authorisation and at certain times.
- Lighting the fires in places where there is no reed or close to reeds.

- For access to the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve, tourists need a visiting permit, which can be obtained online or in Tulcea.
- It's a good idea to choose organised trips with local guides, not only to follow the rules, but also to discover stories and hidden places you'd otherwise never see.
