Protected zone: Rosca - Buhaiova - Danube Delta
Roșca - Buhaiova is a strictly protected area in the Danube Delta, covering 9,625 hectares. It is located in the northern part of the delta, north of Matița-Merhei Lake, and is characterised by a great diversity of biotopes specific to the river delta.
The Rosca-Buhaiova area is located in the northern part of the Danube Delta, north of Lake Merheiul Mare, between the localities of Chilia Veche and Periprava.
It's a strictly protected area with an integral protection regime, which means human activities are restricted to preserve the ecosystem.
It includes a wide range of habitats such as floating and fixed flats, mudflats, salt marshes, lakes, river haughs and natural gorges.
The area is important for the biodiversity of the delta, providing a habitat for many plant and animal species.
The Rosca-Buhaiova area is part of the Matița-Merhei lake complex.
