Short description of the trip

Step into a place that's more than a destination - it's a revelation.

The Danube Delta doesn't reveal itself to just anyone. Here, the birds come on their own, light flows gently over the reeds, and silence speaks louder than any hurried guide. This is not a simple excursion, but an experience crafted for those who know how to wait, observe, and truly photograph nature.

This 4-day / 3-night wildlife photography tour is dedicated to photographers, birdwatching enthusiasts, and nature lovers who want to discover the Danube Delta at a slow, ethical, and authentic pace.

The tour is led by Florin Stavarache – a local guide, ornithologist, biologist and wildlife photographer, with over 20 years of experience in the Danube Delta, Dobrogea and other wild areas of Romania.

Florin grew up near these places and knows the Delta not just as a destination, but as a living space, where the light, wind, water level, and bird behaviour change each day.

The philosophy of Just Wildlife Tours is simple:
Small groups, low impact, ethical photography and real experiences away from mass tourism.

What does this special tour do

  • Maximum 6 participants – small group, quiet and space for photography
  • Low-profile photo boat – ideal for water-level shots
  • Two photo sessions daily – early morning and at sunset
  • Local specialist guide offered by Florin Stavarache
  • Ethical wildlife photography – no baiting, no stress for birds, no forced scenes
  • Workshops and field discussions on light, composition and wildlife behaviour
  • Authentic local accommodation, traditional meals, and a peaceful atmosphere

Everything – the programme, pace, routes and logistics – is designed for photographers, not sightseeing tourism.

What you will photograph
The sessions primarily take place from the low-profile photo boat, on the canals, lakes, reed beds and quiet areas of the Danube Delta.

Possible species:

  • Curly pelican and common pelican
  • Stilts, egrets, cormorant, ibis and spoonbills
  • kingfisher, terns, gulls and waders
  • hawks and other birds of prey
  • occasional: otter, wildcat, raccoon dog, wild boar or muskrat

The objective is to build a varied portfolio: portraits, flight shots, birds in habitat, natural behaviours, reflections on water, mammals, landscapes, and details that tell the story of the Delta.

We move slowly and discreetly, with the engine switched off whenever possible, to preserve the peace of the place and to photograph wildlife without pressure.

The rhythm of the tour
Each day is built around birdsong and activity.

In general, the programme includes:

  • Early morning session: approximately 04:30–10:30
  • Midday break: breakfast, rest, meal and photo discussions
  • Afternoon/evening session: approx. 3:30 PM–8:00 PM

Between sessions, we can discuss settings, composition, light, species behaviour and how you can build stronger images, not just isolated photographs.

Brief itinerary
Day 1 – Arrival in Tulcea and transfer to the Danube Delta
Meeting at Tulcea Port – „Ivan Patzaichin” Embankment, at 15:00.

We'll set off by boat towards the Mila 23 area and have our first photo session en route. Along the way, we might already spot herons, cormorants, gulls, pelicans, or some beautiful reflections on the water.

Evening: check-in, dinner and briefing for the following days.

Days 2–3 – Bird and wildlife photography in the Danube Delta
Two days dedicated to photography in the heart of the Danube Delta.

We set off before dawn, navigating slowly through canals, lakes and reedbeds, and adapting our routes according to the light, weather, wind and bird activity.

In the afternoon, we head out onto the water again, in the warm sunset light, exploring new areas or returning to productive spots.

After dinner, optionally, we can discuss the photographs taken, settings, composition, and field techniques.

Day 4 – Last photo session and return to Tulcea
This morning we have the last photo session on the way back to Tulcea.

Keep the device ready until the end — some of the most beautiful encounters happen exactly when you least expect them.

The tour concludes around midday in Tulcea.
