St Nicholas Orthodox Cathedral - A monument of faith and history
St Nicholas Cathedral in Sulina is more than just a place of worship. It is an architectural and historical monument, a testimony to the steadfast faith of the local community and the town's rich history.
Built between 1910 and 1980The cathedral impresses with its neo-Romanesque style and impressive size. Its triconic, cross-shaped plan and three spires make it an unmistakable landmark of the Sulina landscape. The interior is decorated with mural paintings by Prof Gheorghe Răducanu, which depict important moments in the life of St Nicholas and the Orthodox Church.
A project by architect Nicolae C. Mihaiescu, the cathedral was founded by Charles I and Charles II, with an important contribution from the Dutch Royal House.
